Komets Fire Back in Game 2

May 3, 2025 – The Fort Wayne Komets made a statement Saturday night with a commanding 6-1 victory over the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center, tying the Central Division Finals series 1-1 as the action shifts to Fort Wayne for the next three games.

How It Happened:

Toledo struggled to generate offense from the opening puck drop, while the Komets found their stride early and never let up.

Fort Wayne opened the scoring late in the first period when Zach Jordan netted a rebound at 17:54, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. The goal, assisted by Ethan Keppen and Matt Murphy, set the tone for what would become a lopsided affair.

The second period saw Fort Wayne ramp up the pressure. Just 70 seconds in, Keppen doubled the Komets’ lead with his sixth goal of the postseason. He wasn’t done yet. At 12:05, the forward added another, giving Fort Wayne a 3-0 advantage.

Toledo found a spark shortly after when Trenton Bliss buried a power play goal at 14:48, assisted by Jalen Smereck and Cole Gallant. The goal cut the lead to 3-1 and offered a glimpse of hope for the Walleye heading into the third.

However, that momentum was quickly erased. Fort Wayne capitalized on a power play just 38 seconds into the third period, with Alex Swetlikoff restoring the three-goal cushion. James Stefan added another power play tally at 7:52, pushing the lead to 5-1. Blake Murray closed out the scoring with a breakaway goal in the final second of regulation.

What’s Next:

The Walleye will look to bounce back on the road as the series moves to Fort Wayne for Games 3, 4, and 5. Game 3 is set for Monday night with puck drop at 7:35 p.m. Toledo will need to regroup quickly and find a way to slow down Fort Wayne’s relentless attack if they hope to regain control of the series.

With the series tied and momentum swinging, it’s anyone’s game heading into Fort Wayne’s home ice.
