Walleye Even Series in Double Overtime
The Toledo Walleye battled their way to a 4-3 double overtime victory over the Fort Wayne Komets on Tuesday night, tying the series at two games apiece and setting up a pivotal Game 5 back on home ice this Saturday.
Colin Swoyer opened the scoring for Toledo in the first period at 13:34, finishing off a play from Nolan Moyle and Mitchell Lewandowski. The Walleye added to their lead in the third when Colby Ambrosio scored at 8:47, with assists from Moyle and Brandon Kruse.
Fort Wayne mounted a late comeback, starting with a goal from James Stefan at 17:28. Moments later, Jack Dugan converted on a penalty shot at 18:55 to tie the game and force overtime.
After a hard-fought and scoreless first overtime, Tyler Spezia lifted Toledo to victory with the game-winning goal just 26 seconds into the second overtime period. His heroics sent the Huntington Center crowd into celebration and gave the Walleye new life in the series.
The physical matchup saw both teams trade penalties throughout the night, adding to the intensity of the postseason clash. Special teams played a key role, but it was Toledo’s resilience and timely scoring that made the difference.
With the win, the series is now tied 2-2. The Walleye will look to carry this momentum tomorrow and then into Game 5, set for Saturday, May 10 in Toledo.
