Detroit Captain Dylan Larkin Named NHL First Star of the Week

Detroit’s star center and captain Dylan Larkin has been named the NHL’s First Star of the Week after a scorching early-season run. In four games last week (Oct. 13–19), Larkin racked up 4 goals and 5 assists for a league-leading 9 points. He opened the week by scoring the first goal in a 3-2 win over Toronto, then added two assists in a 4-1 victory against Florida. Larkin followed with back-to-back game-winning goals – including an overtime winner against Tampa Bay – and capped the week with a four-point effort (2 goals, 2 assists) in a 4-2 win over Edmonton.
The Red Wings have ridden Larkin’s hot streak to a 5-1-0 start, including a five-game winning streak, one of Detroit’s best starts in years. The 29-year-old center has now scored or assisted in each of Detroit’s first six games, placing him among the NHL’s early-season leaders with 11 points and a +9 rating. Beyond the raw numbers, Larkin has been a driving force and leader. Head coach Todd McLellan praised Larkin for “leading by example” and having “everything a captain should be,” and the veteran has been seen rallying teammates and even collecting milestone pucks for the team’s young players.
With Larkin at the helm, Detroit’s offense looks invigorated and confident. His red-hot play and steady leadership have energized the locker room as the Wings chase their first playoff berth in years. For now, Larkin is soaking in the spotlight – and Detroit fans are enjoying a captain and team that seem poised for a special season.
