A Full Circle Moment for Megan Keller

For Megan Keller, hockey has always started at home.

The Farmington Hills native grew up playing at Suburban Ice-Farmington Hills, the same rink where she first learned to skate and began chasing a dream that would eventually take her to the Olympic stage. On Aug. 20, the community came together to celebrate that journey during Megan Keller Day.

Keller, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and 2026 Olympic hero, was honored alongside fellow HoneyBaked alum and Olympic gold medalist Kirsten Simms during a celebration at The Athlete Lab. The event gave the community a chance to celebrate two Michigan hockey players who have reached the highest level of the sport while recognizing the roots that helped get them there.

But perhaps the biggest honor came at the rink itself. Suburban Ice unveiled the Megan Keller Rink, officially putting Keller’s name on the place where her hockey story began. The new rink also features a tribute to her Olympic golden goal against Canada from the 2026 Games.

It is a pretty incredible full-circle moment. The rink that once served as the starting point for a young girl with big dreams is now named after the player who went on to achieve them.

And Keller’s impact in Farmington Hills is about more than a name on the wall. Through her girls hockey camps and continued work to grow the sport, she is helping create the opportunities she once wished she had. Earlier this year, Keller and the NHL Foundation committed $50,000 to the Suburban Hockey Foundation to help Michigan girls and families stay involved in hockey.

For a community that watched Megan Keller grow up, Megan Keller Day was more than a celebration of what she has accomplished. It was a reminder of where it all began, and hopefully, a little inspiration for the next Megan Keller skating through those same doors.
