Trois-Rivières Lions Open Season With Back-to-Back Wins

The Trois-Rivières Lions got their 2026–27 campaign off to a strong start, earning a pair of wins over opening weekend. The Montreal Canadiens affiliate opened the season with a 7–4 victory over the expansion Trenton Ironhawks on Friday, October 16, before following it up with a 5–2 road win against the Worcester Railers on Sunday, October 18.
Trois-Rivières began its home opener at Colisée Vidéotron by facing a historic moment for its opponent. Trenton’s Max Ellis scored the first goal in Ironhawks franchise history, giving the visitors an early lead.
The Lions responded in the second period with three goals in just over two minutes. Isaac Dufort opened the scoring for Trois-Rivières before Mathias Laferrière and Nathaël Roy found the back of the net to put the Lions ahead. However, Trenton answered with three goals of its own, taking a 4–3 advantage into the third period.
Trois-Rivières regained control in the final frame. Captain Anthony Beauregard tied the game before Théo Gueurif put the Lions back in front. Mathieu Bizier extended the lead, and Dufort’s second goal of the night, scored into an empty net, sealed the 7–4 win. Bizier finished with three points, while Dufort recorded two goals in the season opener.
The Lions carried that momentum into Sunday’s matchup against Worcester, where special teams played a major role in another victory.
Beauregard opened the scoring on the power play, and Édouard Charron added a second-period goal to give Trois-Rivières a 2–0 advantage. After Worcester cut the deficit to one, Bizier scored twice in the third period to help the Lions regain control. The Railers added another goal, but Beauregard’s empty-net tally secured the 5–2 result.
The Lions’ special teams were a defining factor in the road victory, with three power-play goals and a shorthanded goal helping fuel the offensive effort. In net, Francesco Lapenna stopped 24 of 26 shots to earn the win.
With six goals across two games from players who scored multiple times and contributions throughout the lineup, Trois-Rivières demonstrated its offensive depth to start the season. The Lions will look to build on their 2–0 start as they continue their early-season road trip against the Norfolk Admirals before returning to Colisée Vidéotron on Friday, October 30, for Rock Night against the Maine Mariners.
