Eagles Rally Past NIU 16–10

Eastern Michigan (2–5, 1–2 MAC) rallied from a mid-game deficit to take down Northern Illinois (1–5, 0–2 MAC) 16–10 Saturday in front of 15,676 fans at Rynearson Stadium.
Rudy Kessinger opened the scoring with a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter, giving the Eagles an early 3–0 lead. NIU answered in the second with a 30-yard field goal by Andrew Glass, but Kessinger responded late in the half with a 49-yard kick to give EMU a 6–3 edge at halftime.
The game turned in the third quarter when NIU’s Telly Johnson Jr. broke free for an 80-yard touchdown run, putting the Huskies ahead 10–6. EMU, however, would not be denied. In the fourth quarter, quarterback Noah Kim found Joshua Long for a 6-yard touchdown pass, and Kessinger added a 28-yard field goal later in the quarter to seal the 16–10 win.
The Eagles’ defense tightened when it mattered, and Kessinger’s three field goals proved crucial in a game where every point counted. EMU now looks to build momentum as they continue their MAC campaign.
