Fish Roll in Season Opener
The Toledo Walleye opened their 2025-26 campaign in impressive fashion, earning a 4-1 victory over the Indy Fuel at Fishers Event Center on Saturday night. The win set the tone for the season as Toledo capitalized on special teams and controlled the pace late in the game.
Toledo’s penalty kill was sharp early, denying Indy’s first three power-play chances before turning defense into offense. Darby Llewellyn netted the first goal of the season shorthanded late in the second period, giving the Walleye a 1-0 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
In the third, the power play came alive. The Walleye struck twice on the man advantage to extend their lead before adding another short-handed tally to seal the win. Toledo finished 2-for-4 on the power play and killed off six of seven penalties — an early sign that their special teams could be a difference-maker this season.
Goaltender Carter Gylander turned aside 25 of 26 shots in his first start of the year, anchoring a disciplined and confident effort from the Walleye lineup.
With a strong start on both sides of the puck, Toledo leaves Indiana with two points and early momentum as they continue their road swing to open the season.
