KOMETS CLAIM 4-1 WIN OVER CYCLONES
DEC 28, 2024 – The Fort Wayne Komets delivered a dominant performance on home ice, securing a 4-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Strong goaltending and a balanced offensive effort helped the Komets snap Cincinnati’s momentum and add another win to their season record.
BREAKING THROUGH IN THE SECOND
After a scoreless first period, the Komets found their offensive rhythm in the second frame. Alex Swetlikoff opened the scoring at 5:36, slipping the puck past Cincinnati netminder Talyn Boyko off assists from Harrison Rees and Jack Dugan. Fort Wayne controlled the pace throughout the period, outshooting the Cyclones and limiting their chances on the other end of the ice.
SEALING THE DEAL IN THE THIRD
Swetlikoff struck again early in the third period, doubling the lead just 1:16 in, with an assist from Alex Aleardi. Odeen Tufto extended the advantage at 11:14, finishing off a setup from Dugan and Kyle Mayhew to put the Komets up 3-0.
Cincinnati fought back with a goal from Mathieu Gosselin at 14:02, briefly cutting into the deficit. However, Fort Wayne responded swiftly, as Nolan Volcan iced the game with a tally at 16:21, assisted by Tufto and Dugan.
STRONG DEFENSIVE EFFORT & GOALTENDING STANDOUT
Komets goaltender Connor Ungar was the backbone of the victory, turning away 39 shots to frustrate Cincinnati’s attack. His poise between the pipes ensured the Cyclones couldn’t capitalize on their offensive opportunities, earning him a crucial win.
On the other end, Boyko made 37 saves for Cincinnati but couldn’t withstand Fort Wayne’s persistent pressure.
