Evan Fitterer Earns Southern League Pitcher of the Month
Pensacola Blue Wahoos right-hander Evan Fitterer has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Month for April, following a dominant stretch that saw him put together an impressive 2-1 record and a staggering 0.87 ERA over four appearances.
Fitterer, 24, struck out 20 batters in 20 2/3 innings, allowing only 10 hits and five walks, while holding opposing hitters to a mere .192 batting average. His consistency and ability to shut down opponents were particularly evident in his three starts, during which he did not allow a single earned run across 16 2/3 innings. Fitterer’s month included a 14 2/3-inning scoreless streak to close out April, further cementing his status as one of the most dominant pitchers in the Southern League.
Drafted by the Miami Marlins in the fifth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Aliso Niguel High School in Aliso Viejo, California, Fitterer has quickly become a standout on the mound for the Blue Wahoos. His performance in April was a key factor in the team’s success, and he’s poised to continue his strong season as he looks to build on this remarkable accomplishment.
Fitterer’s recognition as Southern League Pitcher of the Month highlights not only his individual success but also his continued development as a top prospect in the Marlins’ organization. As the season progresses, eyes will be on him as he continues to make waves in the minor leagues.
The Blue Wahoos and their fans will be eager to see how Fitterer’s dominant start to the season translates into further success on the mound.
