Leps Make History: Cremarosa & Shelagowski Drafted in MLB
On July 14, 2025, the Royal Oak Leprechauns made history as Aidan Cremarosa and Jake Shelagowski became the seventh and eighth players in franchise history to be selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.
Aidan Cremarosa — Tampa Bay Rays (8th round, 237th overall)
Cremarosa, who hurled for the Leprechauns in 2024 before pitching at Fresno State, was taken by the Tampa Bay Rays with the 237th pick. During his time in Royal Oak, he posted a 2.70 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 23.1 innings, allowing just 10 walks.
At Fresno State, Cremarosa was named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Year in 2025. He led the conference with 112 strikeouts across 95.1 innings, while posting a 4.34 ERA and a 6–6 record over 17 starts. Over his collegiate career, he totaled 143.1 innings across 44 appearances (17 starts), compiling a career ERA of 4.65, 156 strikeouts, and only 43 walks.
Jake Shelagowski — St. Louis Cardinals (13th round, 390th overall)
The Cardinals selected Shelagowski with the 390th overall pick. A redshirt sophomore at Saginaw Valley State University, he appeared in five games during the collegiate season and struck out 11 saves while leading the GLIAC in saves, tying for third-most in NCAA Division II.
With the Leprechauns this summer, Shelagowski struck out 10 batters in just 5.1 innings and touched 98 mph on the Memorial Park radar gun.
